LISZEN: Plugins for (almost) Everyone

…As long as you’ve upgraded to the newest browser, that is. As many already know, LISZEN was getting some DNS hiccups out of the way on Monday and Tuesday, but everything is now good to go with new improvements:

LISZEN Search Add-on

If you are running Firefox 2.0 or IE7 there is now a search add-on available, thanks to Kevin Yezbick. Oddly enough, he is a fellow Wayne State University LISPer. He was able to muster up the plugin between working as a paraprofessional at Farmington Community Library and finishing up his last semester at Wayne. Three cheers for Kevin!

Share Your Searches

Before the DNS transfer, LISZEN only showed (liszen.com) in the address bar. Now full links will appear, allowing you to send searches to whoever you want. I hope the added improvement makes up for the 2 days of troubles. I think this may, also, fix the Firefox 1.5.0.7 error (can anyone confirm this?).

Searching Even More Blogs

In less than a week I’ve personally added a number of blogs submitted. Many of the submissions were from all over the world. There have been a total of 21 additional blogs added! This brings the number up to 551 blogs as of this post.

Coming Soon…

Currently, all searchable blogs on LISZEN are in one clump. This will change in the future with the release of “refinements” within searches. Refinements will allow users to choose to look through all blogs, individual blogs, institutional blogs, or special library blogs. This means lots of weeding, tagging, and importing of additional (academic and special library) blogs will need to be done and I’m accepting volunteers.

I’d like to hear any and all thoughts on refinements. The categories are not set in stone and input is appreciated!
